Mathematics
We have designed a vocabulary rich curriculum that connects learning by building an understanding of ideas, concepts, chronology and themes through the framework of ‘here, there and then, now, next’. These thinking threads link learning meaningfully to create opportunities to learn from the past and present as well as equipping children for an ever-changing and exciting future.
As a mathematician, we solve problems that reflect the here and now, building on mathematical concepts from then, to prepare for the challenges of next, applying logical reasoning across different contexts.
At Halwin we use the White Rose Maths scheme. The core of White Rose Maths is the maths mastery approach, which focuses on depth rather than acceleration, ensuring that key concepts are fully grasped before moving on.
Learning of number is supported by the Mastering Number programme from Reception to Year 2, and the Number Sense programme in KS2.
We also subscribe to Maths Whizz and Times Tables Rockstars for children from Y2 onwards.
